That claim is a bit exaggerated—baking soda can help loosen some grease, but there isn’t one recipe that’s safe for every surface.
🧽 Simple baking-soda grease paste
Mix:
-
3 tablespoons baking soda
-
1 tablespoon water
-
A few drops of dishwashing liquid for extra grease-cutting power
Stir into a thick paste. Apply it to a greasy, washable surface, leave it for 5–10 minutes, then gently wipe with a soft sponge. Rinse with clean water and dry.
Good places to try it
-
Stovetop surfaces
-
Range-hood/extractor exterior
-
Greasy cabinet surfaces
-
Some appliance exteriors
Always check the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions first.
Don’t use it everywhere
Baking soda can scratch or dull polished surfaces, some stainless-steel finishes, aluminum, natural stone, and nonstick coatings. Never mix it with bleach or other cleaning chemicals.
For stubborn grease, dish soap is usually the key ingredient; baking soda mainly adds mild scrubbing and deodorizing action.
