If you mean the dark ring around a bathroom or kitchen faucet, it is usually caused by mineral deposits, soap residue, grime, or mold/mildew.
Easy way to clean it
- Wipe away loose grime with a damp microfiber cloth.
- Soak a cloth or paper towel in white vinegar and place it around the dark ring for about 10–15 minutes. This helps dissolve mineral buildup.
- Gently scrub with an old soft toothbrush.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Dry the area completely with a microfiber cloth.
For stubborn residue, a small amount of baking soda can be mixed with water into a paste and gently scrubbed after rinsing away the vinegar. Don’t mix vinegar and baking soda together in a closed container.
If the ring won’t come off
If the dark area is actually staining, damaged caulk/grout, or corrosion beneath the faucet, cleaning may not remove it. In that case, the faucet may need to be lifted and the old sealant cleaned/replaced.
Avoid abrasive powders, steel wool, or harsh scrubbing, especially on chrome or brushed finishes, because they can permanently scratch the surface.
