✨ How to Make Jewelry Shine Again
A simple cleaning method works well for many solid gold, platinum, and some durable gemstone jewelry.
Gentle cleaning method
- Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild dish soap.
- Soak the jewelry for 5–10 minutes.
- Gently brush around settings and crevices with a very soft toothbrush.
- Rinse thoroughly in a bowl of clean water rather than directly over an open drain.
- Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth and allow it to dry completely.
⚠️ Be careful with delicate pieces
Don’t use the same method blindly on every piece. Pearls, opals, turquoise, coral, and other porous or delicate stones can be damaged by soaking or household cleaners. Avoid toothpaste, baking soda scrubs, bleach, and abrasive cleaners, which can scratch metals or damage finishes.
For costume jewelry, plated jewelry, or pieces with glued stones, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions instead.
For valuable or antique jewelry, professional cleaning is the safest option—especially if a stone is loose.
