Clear your throat and lungs of mucus with this recipe – just 2 ingredients

“Clear Your Throat and Lungs of Mucus With This 2-Ingredient Recipe”

Be cautious with claims that a homemade drink can “clean” or “clear” mucus from the lungs. There isn’t a two-ingredient recipe proven to remove mucus from the lungs or cure the condition causing it.

If you’re dealing with ordinary mucus from a cold, allergies, or post-nasal drip, simple measures can make it easier to clear.

A simple 2-ingredient option

Warm water + honey can soothe an irritated throat and may reduce coughing.

You need:

  • 1 cup (240 mL) warm water
  • 1–2 teaspoons honey

Stir and sip slowly. Do not give honey to children under 1 year old.

Honey doesn’t “detox” the lungs or dissolve mucus deep in the chest, but it can make a bothersome cough more comfortable.

Other things that can help

  • Drink adequate fluids so mucus doesn’t become unnecessarily thick.
  • Use a clean humidifier if the air is dry.
  • A warm shower may temporarily loosen mucus.
  • Saline nasal spray or rinsing can help when post-nasal drainage is contributing to throat mucus.
  • Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke.

Don’t add bleach, concentrated essential oils, or large amounts of vinegar to a drink or inhale them. These can irritate or injure the respiratory tract.

🚨 When mucus needs medical attention

Seek medical care if you have difficulty breathing, chest pain, coughing up blood, blue/gray lips, confusion, or rapidly worsening symptoms. Persistent cough or phlegm—especially lasting several weeks—also deserves evaluation.

Bottom line: A warm honey drink may soothe your throat, but no simple recipe literally “cleans your lungs.” The right treatment depends on why you’re producing mucus in the first place.
