🧽 The “Effortless” Way to Clean a Dirty Oven
For baked-on grease and burnt-on food, you can make the job much easier with baking soda, dish soap, and water—without relying on harsh fumes.
What to do
- Let the oven cool completely. Remove the racks and loose crumbs.
- Make a paste: Mix about ½ cup baking soda with a few tablespoons of water and a small amount of dish soap. You want a spreadable paste.
- Apply it to greasy or burned areas, avoiding heating elements, gas burners, vents, and electrical components.
- Leave it for several hours or overnight. The paste has time to soften the baked-on residue.
- Wipe and scrub gently with a damp sponge or microfiber cloth. A plastic scraper can help with stubborn deposits.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water so no baking-soda residue remains.
- Wash the racks separately in warm soapy water.
⚠️ Important
Don’t mix bleach with vinegar, ammonia, or other cleaners, and don’t use abrasive materials that can damage the oven’s finish.
If your oven has a self-cleaning or steam-cleaning function, check the manufacturer’s instructions before using homemade cleaners—some products or residues aren’t suitable for those cycles.
For a really stubborn burnt patch, repeat the treatment rather than aggressively scraping it, which can damage the oven surface.
