If you’re referring to the claim that sleeping on your right side is harmful, that’s too broad. For most healthy adults, sleeping on either side is generally safe, and there isn’t good evidence that consistently sleeping on the right side damages a particular organ.

A few considerations:

  • Acid reflux: Left-side sleeping often reduces nighttime reflux compared with right-side sleeping.

  • Pregnancy: Side sleeping is generally recommended later in pregnancy; a person should follow their obstetrician’s advice rather than relying on claims about one specific side.

  • Heart conditions: Some people with heart failure find one sleeping position more comfortable than another, but there is no universal “correct” side.

  • Snoring or sleep apnea: Changing sleep position can sometimes affect symptoms, particularly compared with sleeping flat on the back.

  • Shoulder/hip pain: Sleeping repeatedly on one side can aggravate an already painful joint.

So if you always sleep on your right side and feel well, there’s usually no reason to worry. If you have reflux, significant snoring, breathing pauses, or persistent pain, your sleeping position may be worth discussing with a healthcare professional.
