Peace lily: thanks to this one ingredient, it will bloom for up to 10 years in a row.

If you’re referring to the viral “one ingredient that makes a peace lily bloom for 10 years” trick, there’s no single ingredient proven to make a peace lily flower continuously for a decade. 🌿

What actually helps a peace lily (Spathiphyllum) flower reliably is a combination of conditions:

  • Bright, indirect light: Probably the most important factor. Too little light often produces leaves without flowers.
  • Appropriate watering: Keep the soil lightly moist but not constantly saturated. Let the surface begin to dry before watering again.
  • Good drainage: Use a pot with drainage holes to prevent root problems.
  • Balanced fertilizer: During active growth, a diluted, balanced houseplant fertilizer can provide nutrients. More fertilizer isn’t necessarily better.
  • Warm, stable conditions: Avoid cold drafts and extreme temperature changes.
  • Repot when necessary: If the plant is severely root-bound, giving the roots more room can improve growth.

What about banana water, rice water, or coffee?

These homemade “one ingredient” fertilizers are popular online, but they aren’t magic bloom boosters. They can sometimes introduce nutrients, but they can also encourage mold, pests or nutrient imbalances if repeatedly added to the soil.

If your peace lily is healthy and producing lots of leaves but no white flowers, tell me where you keep it (how far from a window), how often you water it, and whether you’ve ever fertilized it. I can help you figure out why it isn’t blooming.
