Never Uproot This Plant If It Appears in Your Garden 🌿
If you’re referring to the common viral gardening headline, there isn’t one universally “must-keep” plant. A plant that is beneficial in one garden can be invasive or harmful in another.
Many so-called weeds are actually useful. For example:
- Dandelions provide food for pollinators and can be edible.
- Clover can help support pollinators and improve soil nitrogen.
- Nettles support wildlife and can be useful in certain traditional applications, although they can sting.
- Plantain (Plantago) is a common lawn plant that provides habitat and food for some insects.
However, don’t assume every unfamiliar plant is beneficial. Some weeds are invasive, toxic, or harmful to pets and children.
If you send me a photo of the plant, I can help identify it and tell you whether it’s worth keeping or removing.
