If you’re referring to the viral “2-ingredient mucus-clearing recipe,” there isn’t a home recipe proven to literally clean mucus out of your lungs. But a simple drink can soothe an irritated throat and make coughing more comfortable.
A simple 2-ingredient option
Honey + warm water
-
Mix 1–2 teaspoons of honey into a cup of warm water.
-
Sip it slowly, especially when your throat feels irritated.
-
Honey may help reduce coughing and soothe the throat, but it doesn’t cure a lung infection or physically remove mucus from the lungs.
You can also help loosen mucus by drinking adequate fluids, using saline nasal spray/rinse when postnasal drip is involved, and avoiding smoke and vaping.
Important: Never give honey to a child under 1 year old.
If phlegm persists for several weeks, or you have shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, high fever, wheezing, or unexplained weight loss, get medical attention rather than relying on a home remedy.
