SIGNS THAT YOUR HEART IS NOT RIGHT, PAY ATTENTION

Signs Your Heart May Need Attention

Some heart problems cause obvious symptoms, while others can be subtle. A symptom doesn’t necessarily mean you have heart disease, but new or unexplained symptoms deserve attention.

  • Chest pressure, squeezing, heaviness, or pain — especially if it lasts several minutes or keeps returning.

  • Shortness of breath — particularly during ordinary activities or while resting.

  • Pain spreading to the arm, shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or upper abdomen.

  • Unusual sweating, nausea, or lightheadedness — these can accompany a heart attack.

  • A racing, pounding, or irregular heartbeat that is new or persistent.

  • Fainting or near-fainting, especially during exertion.

  • Unusual fatigue or reduced ability to exercise compared with your normal level.

  • Swelling of the ankles, legs, or abdomen, particularly when accompanied by breathlessness or rapid weight gain.

  • Breathlessness when lying down or waking suddenly at night struggling to breathe.

  • Persistent dizziness or weakness, particularly when occurring with other symptoms.

🚨 Don’t wait with possible heart-attack symptoms

If you suddenly develop chest discomfort, severe shortness of breath, fainting, or pain/discomfort spreading to your arm, back, neck, or jaw, seek emergency medical care immediately.

Heart attacks don’t always look like dramatic chest pain. Older adults, women, and people with diabetes may sometimes have less typical symptoms.

If symptoms are new but mild, arrange a medical evaluation rather than trying to diagnose the cause yourself.
