What actually happens in your colon
Your digestive system continuously moves food residue through the intestines and eliminates stool naturally. There isn’t normally 15 kg of accumulated “waste” sitting in a healthy person’s colon that needs to be flushed out.
Products or recipes promoted as overnight colon cleanses—especially those containing large amounts of laxatives, salt water, or other substances—can cause:
- Severe diarrhea and abdominal cramping
- Dehydration
- Dangerous electrolyte disturbances
- Low blood pressure or dizziness
- Kidney problems in vulnerable people
- Medication absorption problems
- Rarely, serious intestinal complications
If you’re constipated
Safer measures include adequate fluids, gradually increasing dietary fiber, regular physical activity, and discussing an appropriate laxative with a pharmacist or doctor if needed.
You also don’t need a “detox” to remove toxins from your body—your liver and kidneys perform those functions continuously.
If you paste the recipe from the first comment, I can go through each ingredient and tell you what it actually does, whether it can cause a bowel movement, and whether there are any safety concerns.
