How to Remove Set-In Grease Stains From Laundry
Set-in grease stains can be stubborn, especially if the clothing has already been washed or dried. The good news is that you can often remove them with liquid dish soap, laundry detergent, and a little patience. You may need to repeat the treatment before the stain disappears.
5 steps to remove old grease stains
1. Check the care label
Lay the garment flat and inspect the stain. If the grease is thick, gently lift off any residue with a spoon or dull knife. Don’t rub it deeper into the fibers.
2. Apply grease-cutting dish soap
Put a few drops of grease-cutting liquid dish soap directly on the dry stain. Gently work it into the fabric with your fingertips or a soft toothbrush.
3. Let it sit for 15–30 minutes
Give the soap time to break down the oil. For delicate fabrics, test a hidden area first and follow the garment’s care instructions.
