🍂 Fall Awakening: A Little Secret for Happier Houseplants
As temperatures cool in fall, many houseplants naturally slow their growth. The best “secret” isn’t a miracle ingredient—it’s adjusting care to match the season.
🌿 Give your plants a fall refresh
-
Check the light: Shorter days mean less sunlight. Move plants closer to a bright window if their light has noticeably decreased.
-
Water less often: Cooler temperatures and slower growth usually mean soil stays wet longer. Check the top layer of soil before watering rather than following a fixed schedule.
-
Clean the leaves: Dust can reduce the amount of light reaching the leaves. Gently wipe broad leaves with a damp, soft cloth.
-
Check for pests: Inspect both sides of leaves and around stems for spider mites, scale, mealybugs, or other pests.
-
Improve drainage: Make sure pots have drainage holes and aren’t sitting in standing water.
-
Be cautious with fertilizer: Many houseplants need less fertilizer during their slower-growth period. Follow the requirements of the particular plant rather than adding extra fertilizer to “wake it up.”
-
Keep plants away from drafts: Avoid placing them directly beside cold windows, heaters, or air-conditioning vents.
