Every washing machine can dry laundry and most people do not yet know this function

This is partly true, but the wording is misleading. Not every washing machine can actually dry clothes, because washing machines come in different types.

What people may be referring to

Many washing machines have a spin cycle. During spinning, the drum rotates rapidly and uses centrifugal force to remove a substantial amount of water from clothes.

That can make laundry much less wet, but it doesn’t truly dry the clothes. You’ll still need to air-dry them or use a separate dryer.

What about machines that really dry clothes?

Some models are washer-dryers, which combine washing and heated drying in the same appliance. These can take clothes from wet to dry, although their drying capacity is often lower than their washing capacity.

A useful trick

If your clothes come out unusually wet, running an additional spin cycle can remove more water before hanging them up. Check the garment-care labels first, since high-speed spinning isn’t suitable for every fabric.

So the “secret drying function” is usually the spin cycle, not a hidden feature that turns every washing machine into a clothes dryer.
