🧽 Dishwasher Tablet Oven-Cleaning Trick: Does It Work?
A dishwasher tablet can help loosen grease and baked-on food, but the claim that you only need one tablet to make any oven “like new” is exaggerated.
A safer way to try it
- Turn the oven off completely and let it cool.
- Remove the racks and loose crumbs.
- Put on rubber gloves.
- Dissolve a dishwasher tablet in a bowl of very warm water according to the product instructions.
- Use the solution on suitable enamel surfaces, applying it with a non-abrasive sponge or cloth.
- Let the loosened grease sit for a short period, then wipe thoroughly with clean water.
- Rinse repeatedly so detergent residue doesn’t remain.
- Dry the surfaces before using the oven again.
⚠️ Important precautions
- Don’t put a dishwasher tablet directly on a hot oven surface.
- Don’t use dishwasher detergent on heating elements, electrical components, door seals, catalytic/self-cleaning liners, or surfaces specifically excluded by your oven manufacturer.
- Never mix it with bleach, ammonia, vinegar, or other cleaning chemicals.
- Check your oven’s manual first—some modern ovens have special coatings that can be damaged by abrasive or strong cleaners.
For heavy grease, a manufacturer-approved oven cleaner or the oven’s self-cleaning function (if available) is usually a better choice.
So yes, a dishwasher tablet may help with certain oven surfaces, but it’s not a universal or risk-free cleaning hack.
