This natural and effective remedy for relieving constipation

If you’re looking for a natural, evidence-supported approach to occasional constipation, one of the simplest is psyllium (ispaghula) husk.

🌿 Psyllium for constipation

Psyllium is a soluble fiber that absorbs water and forms a soft, bulky stool, making it easier to pass.

How to use it:

  • Start with about 1 teaspoon (roughly 3–5 g) once daily.

  • Mix it thoroughly in a full glass of water and drink it immediately, followed by additional water.

  • Increase gradually if needed and tolerated.

Adequate fluid intake is important. Psyllium can cause gas or bloating initially.

Other natural measures

  • Drink enough fluids throughout the day.

  • Eat more fruit, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and legumes.

  • Prunes or prune juice can be particularly useful for some people.

  • Regular walking or other physical activity can help bowel movement.

  • Establishing a consistent toilet routine can also help.

Don’t use fiber supplements if you may have a bowel obstruction or unexplained severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or significant abdominal swelling.

If constipation is persistent, new, or accompanied by blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or a major change in bowel habits, get medical advice rather than relying on a home remedy.
