If you’re looking for a more accurate, less clickbaity take: there aren’t five colors that everyone over 50 needs to avoid. Skin tone, hair color, contrast, and personal style matter much more than age.
That said, some shades can make certain complexions look more washed out:
-
Very pale beige: Can blend into the skin and reduce contrast.
-
Ashy gray: May emphasize a dull or tired-looking complexion on some people.
-
Yellow-green/chartreuse: Its strong undertone can bring out unwanted yellow or redness in some skin tones.
-
Icy pastels: Very cool, low-saturation shades can sometimes make warm complexions look flat.
-
Neon colors: Extremely bright shades can overpower the face rather than complement it.
The better rule: don’t automatically avoid a color because you’re over 50. Try the garment near your face in natural light. If your skin looks brighter and your eyes look clearer, the color is probably working for you.
