A simple natural approach for constipation
One of the better-supported natural options is increasing dietary fiber gradually while drinking enough fluid. A practical choice is prunes (dried plums) or prune juice.
-
Try a small serving of prunes daily and increase gradually if needed.
-
Drink adequate water throughout the day.
-
Add fiber-rich foods such as oats, beans, vegetables, fruit, and whole grains.
-
Regular walking or other physical activity can also help bowel movements.
-
Don’t ignore the urge to have a bowel movement, and allow yourself enough time rather than straining.
Prunes contain fiber and sorbitol, which can help soften stool and promote bowel movements.
Avoid risky “natural cures”
Be cautious with recipes containing large amounts of baking soda, salt, oils, or herbal laxatives. “Natural” doesn’t automatically mean safe, and some can cause dehydration or electrolyte problems.
If constipation is new and persistent, or you have blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss, persistent abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, or inability to pass stool or gas, seek medical evaluation rather than treating it at home.
