This natural and effective remedy for relieving constipation

A natural approach to relieving constipation

For occasional constipation, simple measures can often help:

  • Prunes or prune juice: Prunes contain fiber and sorbitol, which can help stimulate bowel movements.

  • Kiwifruit: Its fiber content may improve stool frequency and consistency.

  • Increase fiber gradually: Try fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, oats, and whole grains.

  • Drink enough fluids: Especially important when increasing fiber.

  • Stay active: Walking and regular physical activity can encourage normal bowel function.

  • Don’t ignore the urge to go: Give yourself adequate time and try maintaining a regular toilet routine.

Avoid “miracle” natural remedies

Large amounts of herbal laxatives, oils, or detox drinks can cause diarrhea, dehydration, and electrolyte disturbances. Natural doesn’t automatically mean safe.

If constipation is persistent or keeps returning, speak with a healthcare professional. Seek prompt medical attention if constipation comes with severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, substantial abdominal swelling, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, or inability to pass gas.

Bottom line: For mild, occasional constipation, prunes, fiber, adequate fluids, and regular movement are reasonable first steps.
