Here are 3 simple tips to wash yellowed pillows and help them
look white and fresh again:
- Check the care label first
Make sure the pillow is machine-washable. Remove the pillowcase and protector, and inspect for tears or damaged seams. - Pre-treat the yellow stains
Mix a little liquid laundry detergent with oxygen bleach (color-safe, not chlorine bleach) and warm water. Apply it to the yellowed areas and let it sit for about 15–30 minutes. For washable white pillows, you can also add oxygen bleach to the wash according to its label. - Wash and dry thoroughly
Wash two pillows together if your machine allows, using the warmest water permitted by the care label and an extra-rinse cycle. Dry completely—preferably on low/medium heat with dryer balls or clean tennis balls, pausing to fluff the pillows periodically. Never store a pillow while it is even slightly damp, as this can encourage mildew.
Tip: Avoid chlorine bleach unless the manufacturer specifically says it is safe; it can damage pillow fibers and sometimes make yellowing worse.
