How to remove the dark circle around a faucet
That dark ring is usually hard-water/mineral buildup mixed with soap scum, grime, or mildew. You can often remove it without harsh chemicals.
🧽 Simple method
-
Dry the area around the faucet.
-
Soak a paper towel or cloth in white vinegar and place it around the dark ring.
-
Leave it for 15–30 minutes so the mineral deposits can soften.
-
Remove the cloth and gently scrub with an old toothbrush or non-scratch sponge.
-
Rinse thoroughly with water.
-
Dry and buff the area with a microfiber cloth.
For stubborn buildup, make a paste of baking soda and a little water, gently rub it over the residue, then rinse.
⚠️ Important
-
Don’t use vinegar on natural stone such as marble, limestone, or travertine—it can etch the surface.
-
Don’t mix vinegar with bleach or other cleaning chemicals.
-
Avoid steel wool or abrasive scouring pads on plated or polished faucets, as they can scratch the finish.
If the dark circle is black and slimy rather than crusty/white, it may be mildew or mold rather than mineral buildup, and the cleaning approach is different.
