As a BRAIN Doctor, I’m SHOCKED THIS Vitamin Raises Stroke Risk Overnight Senior Health

“This vitamin raises stroke risk overnight” — what does the evidence say?

That headline is misleading. There is no established vitamin that suddenly makes

an older person’s stroke risk jump “overnight.”

One supplement sometimes discussed in alarming headlines is vitamin D, particularly when combined with calcium. Some research has reported an association between calcium + vitamin D supplementation and stroke, but that does not mean vitamin D by itself causes an immediate increase in stroke risk. Evidence on supplements and cardiovascular outcomes is mixed and depends on the dose, population, and whether a person is deficient. PubMed Central (PMC)+1

Interestingly, research on B vitamins (B6, B12 and folic acid) has generally not shown an increased stroke risk; some studies have found a modest reduction, particularly in people with elevated homocysteine or low folate, although results aren’t consistent across populations. What matters much more for stroke prevention

For older adults, the strongest established risk factors to address include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, atrial fibrillation, physical inactivity, and excess alcohol.

Don’t abruptly stop a prescribed vitamin or supplement based on a social-media headline. If you tell me which vitamin the headline claims is dangerous, I can fact-check that specific claim and explain the evidence, dosage concerns, and who should be cautious.
