The “ingredient” commonly meant in this kind of cleaning tip is dishwashing liquid. A small amount can help loosen greasy dirt and grime trapped in a mop.
How to clean a very dirty mop
-
Fill a bucket with warm water.
-
Add a small drop of dishwashing liquid and mix well.
-
Soak the mop head for about 10–15 minutes.
-
Rinse it thoroughly with clean water until the water runs clear.
-
Wring it out well and leave it somewhere sunny and well ventilated to dry completely.
For a mop with a strong odor, you can use a little white vinegar diluted in water, but never mix vinegar with bleach.
If the mop head is badly worn, permanently stained, or still smells after washing and drying, replacing it may be more hygienic than trying to restore it.
