How to remove the dark circle around a faucet

That dark ring is usually hard-water/mineral buildup mixed with soap scum, grime, or mildew. You can often remove it without harsh chemicals.

🧽 Simple method

  1. Dry the area around the faucet.

  2. Soak a paper towel or cloth in white vinegar and place it around the dark ring.

  3. Leave it for 15–30 minutes so the mineral deposits can soften.

  4. Remove the cloth and gently scrub with an old toothbrush or non-scratch sponge.

  5. Rinse thoroughly with water.

  6. Dry and buff the area with a microfiber cloth.

For stubborn buildup, make a paste of baking soda and a little water, gently rub it over the residue, then rinse.

⚠️ Important

  • Don’t use vinegar on natural stone such as marble, limestone, or travertine—it can etch the surface.

  • Don’t mix vinegar with bleach or other cleaning chemicals.

  • Avoid steel wool or abrasive scouring pads on plated or polished faucets, as they can scratch the finish.

If the dark circle is black and slimy rather than crusty/white, it may be mildew or mold rather than mineral buildup, and the cleaning approach is different.
