Here’s a simple, creamy mashed-potato recipe with buttery flavor and a fluffy texture.
🥔 Creamy Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients
-
1 kg (2.2 lb) potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
-
60 g (4 tbsp) unsalted butter
-
120 ml (½ cup) warm milk
-
1 teaspoon salt, plus more for the cooking water
-
¼ teaspoon black pepper
-
1–2 cloves garlic, optional
Instructions
-
Boil the potatoes: Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 15–20 minutes, until fork-tender.
-
Drain well: Drain the potatoes thoroughly and let them sit in the hot pot for 1–2 minutes so excess moisture evaporates.
-
Mash: Add the butter and mash the potatoes until mostly smooth.
-
Add milk: Gradually pour in the warm milk while gently mashing until you reach your preferred consistency.
-
Season: Add salt and black pepper to taste.
-
Serve: Spoon into a serving bowl and top with a little extra butter if desired.
⭐ For extra-creamy potatoes
Use Yukon Gold or another naturally buttery, yellow-fleshed potato, and avoid overmixing. Too much mixing can make mashed potatoes gluey.
Optional additions
-
Roasted garlic
-
Grated Parmesan
-
Chopped fresh parsley or chives
-
A spoonful of sour cream
-
A little cream instead of milk
