Laundry as white and pure as milk: you only need this ingredient

  1. If you mean the popular laundry tip, the “one ingredient” is often baking soda—but the claim that it will make every load “white as milk” is exaggerated.

    How to use baking soda

    • Add about ½ cup (120 g) of baking soda to the washing machine along with your normal detergent.

    • Wash whites using the warmest temperature appropriate for the fabric.

    • For stubborn yellowing or stains, a laundry oxygen bleach formulated for whites is generally more effective than baking soda alone.

    • Check the garment’s care label first.

Baking soda can help deodorize and boost cleaning, but it isn’t a powerful bleach and won’t reliably remove every type of discoloration.

Avoid mixing household cleaners, particularly bleach with ammonia, acids, or other cleaning products, because dangerous gases can form.
