If you’re referring to the viral claim that one tablespoon of a particular ingredient in the morning “loosens stuck stool” and melts belly bloat, be cautious. There isn’t a universal tablespoon-sized remedy that safely cleans out the bowel.
For ordinary constipation, evidence-based options include:
- Adequate fluids throughout the day.
- Gradually increasing fiber from fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains.
- Regular physical activity.
- If needed, an appropriate over-the-counter laxative, such as polyethylene glycol, can be discussed with a pharmacist or clinician.
If the tablespoon you’re referring to is oil, baking soda, apple cider vinegar, or another popular home remedy, it doesn’t reliably “flush out” the colon or burn abdominal fat. Some can cause diarrhea, electrolyte problems, or stomach irritation when taken in excess.
Also, persistent bloating isn’t necessarily caused by “stuck stool.” It can have many causes, including constipation, food intolerance, IBS, and other gastrointestinal conditions.
Seek medical care urgently if constipation or bloating comes with severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, a swollen/distended abdomen, blood in the stool, or inability to pass stool or gas.
