7 Foods That Kill Worms in the Intestine

7 Foods That May Support Gut Health—but Don’t Reliably “Kill” Intestinal Worms

There are plenty of claims online that certain foods can eliminate intestinal worms. However, food is not a proven treatment for a parasitic worm infection. Depending on the type of parasite, effective treatment may require a specific antiparasitic medication.

Some foods are nutritious and may support general digestive health:

  1. Garlic 🧄 — Contains sulfur compounds with antimicrobial activity in laboratory studies, but eating garlic hasn’t been shown to reliably eradicate intestinal worms in people.
  2. Pumpkin seeds 🎃 — Nutrient-rich and traditionally used for parasites, but evidence isn’t strong enough to consider them a treatment.
  3. Carrots 🥕 — Provide fiber and nutrients that support normal digestion.
  4. Papaya — Contains enzymes and other compounds that have been investigated for antiparasitic effects, but evidence in humans remains limited.
  5. Pomegranate — Rich in polyphenols and antioxidants; it isn’t an established treatment for intestinal worms.
  6. Ginger 🫚 — May support digestion and has antimicrobial properties, but it shouldn’t replace antiparasitic treatment.
  7. Fermented foods — Yogurt and other fermented foods can contribute beneficial bacteria to the diet, although they don’t eliminate worms.

What actually treats intestinal worms?

Treatment depends on the parasite. Medicines such as albendazole, mebendazole, praziquantel, or pyrantel may be used for particular infections, but the appropriate drug and dose depend on the diagnosis, age, pregnancy status, and type of parasite.

If you suspect worms because of worms in stool, persistent abdominal pain, diarrhea, unexplained weight loss, or intense nighttime anal itching, speak with a healthcare professional rather than relying on a food remedy.

Bottom line: Foods can be part of a healthy diet, but there is no reliable list of seven foods that will “kill” intestinal worms.
